At 3,600 meters above sea level, the Sunyata Meili hotel took 1,095 days to complete the sensitive restoration of its ancient structure. Guided by Tibetan principles, the architecture reflects its ruggedly awe-inspiring setting, surrounded by the Meili mountain range in China’s Yunnan province.
The atrium ceiling carries a large curved arch, its gilded surface reflects natural light illuminating the interiors within. Here wabi-sabi is practiced through the natural materials, salvaged wood, rammed earth and a restrained aesthetic that treasures emptiness.
